TAXI DRIVER: A GRIPPING SERIES ON REVENGE AND JUSTICE

Main Cast: Lee Je-Hoon, Esom, Kim Eui-Sung, Pyo Ye-Jin, Jang Hyuk-Jin, Bae Yoo-Ram

Summary

Taxi Driver is a South Korean drama that follows the story of Kim Do-Ki (played by Lee Je-Hoon). After graduating from the Naval Academy and becoming a member of the Special Forces, Do-Ki returns to find his mother murdered by a serial killer. Following his mother’s brutal death, Do-Ki spends his days in agony and is consumed with guilt for not being there to protect her. However his life forever changes when he meets Jang Sung-Chul (played by Kim Eui-Sung). Similar to Do-Ko, Sung-Chul also found his parents murdered in their home and has patiently waited to begin exacting his revenge on the worst criminals in the country.

Sung-Chul successfully recruited Do-Ki to work as a taxi driver for his company, Rainbow Taxi. However, the taxi company is a front for a secret organization that provides revenge as a service for victims that the law failed to protect. Do-Ki quickly becomes a star deluxe taxi driver as he helps various victims get their revenge and expose the corruption and immorality they experienced. Although the true work of Rainbow Taxi is well-hidden, Kang Ha-Na, an incredibly tenacious and detail-oriented prosecutor notices their lawless behavior and quickly begins piecing together their activities. Regardless of the potential legal trouble he may face, Do-Ki and Sang-Chul pursue their definition of true justice and revenge.

Thoughts

Taxi Driver is definitely a gripping series that fully catches your attention from the get-go. The drama chooses relatable stories where you can’t help but pity the victims while also feeling extreme frustration at society and the lack of justice the victims received. Although there are some graphic scenes, the series amplifies the evil and wickedness of the villains and also pauses to reflect on how cruel humans can quickly become as they search for more power, greed, and money. Each episode left me curious, especially as they attempt to navigate prosecutor Ha-Na on their tails.

Taxi Driver did a phenomenal job at choosing a phenomenal cast. Lee Je-Hoon did a phenomenal job at playing Do-Ki. Not only was his character effortlessly cold and distant, but his ability to nonchalantly seek justice for the victims while toying with the perpetrators added a level of depth and a hint of comedy to the series. Taxi Driver also did a great job at diving deeper into side-stories and carving out scenes to show that there will always be people who act of genuine kindness and are willing to help the weak and powerless. Overall, the series was well-executed and left me curious for the next episode. No wonder it was renewed for a second season!

Overall, I would highly recommend watching Taxi Driver and Taxi Driver 2 on Viki! New episodes of Taxi Driver 2 are released each Friday and Saturday!
