A constellation of acclaimed stars, renowned in Pakistan, South Asia, and internationally, takes center stage in Netflix’s debut Pakistani-themed original series, “Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo.”
This show is a screen adaptation of Farhat Ishtiaq’s 2013 best-selling Urdu novel bearing the same title. The narrative delves into the life of Sikandar, a Harvard law student whose life takes an unexpected turn, compelling him to become reclusive. Parallelly, it introduces Liza, a vivacious artist with a shadowed history. Their paths cross in Italy.
The ensemble features the celebrated duo of Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, who previously mesmerized audiences in “The Legend of Maula Jatt,” Pakistan’s all-time box office topper. Sanam Saeed, who shared the screen with Fawad Khan in the Zindagi series “Barzakh,” is also a key cast member. Adding to this stellar lineup is Ahad Raza Mir, known for his role in the Netflix series “Resident Evil” and his impactful performance in the second season of BBC’s “World on Fire.”
The ensemble is further graced by notable names such as Hamza Ali Abbasi, known for his antagonist role in “The Legend of Maula Jatt”; Bilal Ashraf from “Superstar”; Maya Ali of “Parey Hut Love”; Iqra Aziz from “Raqeeb Se”; Hania Aamir in “Parde Mein Rehne Do”; Khushaal Khan from “Muhabbat Gumshuda Meri”; Nadia Jamil of “Jo Bichar Gaye”; Omair Rana from “Pinjra”; and Samina Ahmed, recognized for “Ms. Marvel.”
The Dubai-based production house, Momina Duraid Films FZ – LLC, is behind the series, with the reputable Momina Duraid — known for works like “Bin Roye,” “Chand Tara,” and “Fairytale” — at the helm as the showrunner. Sources indicate that the series is a project of the Netflix Middle East and North Africa division.
Filming is underway across Italy, the U.K., and Pakistan, though a premiere date remains under wraps.
Ishtiaq has an impressive track record of adapting her novels for Pakistani TV, with hits like “Humsafar,” “Mere Humdum Mere Dost,” “Matae Jaan Hai Tu,” “Diyar-e-Dil,” “Bin Roye,” and “Yaqeen Ka Safar.”
