TOM CRUISE IN NEW ALEJANDRO G. IÑÁRRITU MOVIE

Tom Cruise is set to lead the latest project by “The Revenant” director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, as confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. The film, which is Iñárritu’s first English-language venture since “The Revenant” starred Leonardo DiCaprio almost ten years ago, is currently under negotiation by Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment for acquisition.

While the specifics of the plot remain undisclosed, the screenplay is a collaborative effort by Iñárritu, Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris, and Nicolas Giacobone. This new venture follows Cruise’s recent, high-profile (though non-exclusive) agreement with Warner Bros., sparking widespread speculation about the future projects this partnership might bring. The move aligns with rumors of Cruise’s interest in collaborating with renowned directors, having spent the majority of the past decade focusing on blockbuster series like the “Mission: Impossible” saga and “Top Gun: Maverick” with Paramount. Amidst work on the forthcoming “Mission” installment, Cruise is also developing a notable project intended to be filmed in space with Universal and director Doug Liman.

44 Best Tom Cruise Movies of All Time, Ranked

Iñárritu’s most recent work includes directing the Spanish-language drama “Bardo” for Netflix. His film “The Revenant” was a global success, grossing over $500 million and earning him an Oscar for Best Director. This followed his triumph with “Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)” in 2015, where he won Oscars for Best Picture, Director, and Original Screenplay.

Cruise, on the other hand, has received two Best Actor nominations for his roles in Oliver Stone’s “Born on the Fourth of July” (1990) and Cameron Crowe’s “Jerry Maguire” (1997), and a nomination for Supporting Actor in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Magnolia” (2000). Iñárritu’s track record of directing actors to Oscar success, including DiCaprio’s win for “The Revenant” and Michael Keaton’s nomination for “Birdman”, suggests that Cruise’s collaboration with the filmmaker could be an ambitious pursuit of critical acclaim.
