Desis filled the halls of the Sydney Goldstein Theatre in San Francisco for Vir Das on Saturday night. Before we review the performance , we just want to talk about audience etiquette. People were trailing in even 45 minutes into the start of the show. Vir has been patient enough to delay the start , chitchatting with the audience, waiting for the people to settle in but did lose his patience when a good 30 minutes into the show, a person in the absolute front row disturbs his flow and decided to be combative towards Vir.
For performers who are trying to focus on the quality of their show, it is a big distraction when people , especially in the first few rows , that they can see , walk in and out randomly. It disturbs their flow and hampers their performance. Having said that, audience etiquette was pathetic San Francisco and we owe Vir an apology for such behavior. If you are 30 mins late to a stand up show, don’t turn up next time – you have no rights to hamper the experience for the rest of the audience and the performers.
Coming to the performance, it was epic. Vir was on point, articulated himself with the panache he always does and even got the Americans in the audience reeling with laughter even when a lot of the cultural references were lost on the goras.
The highly millennial engineer crowd loved the engineer angles and we couldn’t be prouder to support one of our own making it big on the international stage.
Vir, we love you and we want you to come back soon. Till then, love from San Francisco and BTW these days San Jose is more pricey than San Francisco. All IPOs are happening down the peninsula. So next time , how about San Jose ? @virdas #lovedtour #sanfrancisco #comics @netflix #comicsofinstagram #sanjose #california #californialove.
