RUSSELL PETERS: DEPORTED

We wish there was new material Russell could think of but alas ! He continues on his brown deprecating tirade which seems to be pivotal to his genre of comedy. As Indians living in North America – much of what he says may be his journey but in a greatly connected world, a highly mobile, educated Indian diaspora may not be that disconnected with India anymore.

Moreover, we are done with the generations of Indians that would look down upon our heritage and culture; we love to laugh at ourselves but are staunchly proud of our heritage whether it is to openly celebrate our festivals, our customs and even the audaciousness of Bollywood – which strangely holds us closer together just like cricket does.

We wish Russell could find a new “brown connect” for his material. This shaming of audience, talking down to people, making fun of accents and elaborate roasts are getting to be vulgar. We remember watching Russell in San Francisco where in his normal style he roasted an 11 year old kid of a same sex couple – leaving the crowd cringing with distaste.

So no Russell – we no longer find accent, color, head nod, snake name jokes funny. Please take time off to find new material for the brown people – you have a lot of competition- the other brown comedians are killing it. @russellpeters @amazonprimevideo
