Main Cast: Yoo Yeon-Seok, Mun Ka-Young, Keum Sae-Rok, Jung Ga-Ram
Summary
The Interest of Love is one of the newest South Korean dramas that follows the love lives of 4 bank employees at Korea Credit Union’s (KCU) Youngpo branch.
Despite coming from a poor family, Ha Sang-Su (played by Yoo Yeon-Seok) successfully attended a prestigious university and wants an ordinary life as he continues his job as a section-chief at the bank. Despite his efforts, Sang-Su struggles to find success in his current role as he makes rookie mistakes. His quest for an average life is suddenly endangered after he decides to pursue love.
Although she is the “goddess of Youngpo”, Ahn Su-Yeong (played by Mun Ka-Young) has never had a true relationship as she struggles to make ends meet. Her mysterious past also makes her act cold and distant towards her coworkers as she draws a strict line between personal and professional boundaries. However, this hard and fast rule suddenly comes into question after she unintentionally falls for someone.
In addition to being a member of an affluent and influential family, Park Mi-Gyeong (played by Keum Sae-Rok) works at KCU and is transferred to the Youngpo branch and is assertive and open about her feelings. While working at the new branch she is reunited with Sang-Su, who was a former classmate and senior of her university.
Jeong Jong-Hyeon works at the bank as a security guard while he studies for the police officer entrance exam. Although he doesn’t make much, Jong-Hyeon supports his elderly parents with his small salary and finds motivation and encouragement in the daily struggle.
Thoughts
Although only 4 episodes have been released, The Interest of Love is definitely a cute drama! Both Sang-Su and Jong-Hyeon are such nice and friendly guys; they definitely make the days of toxic male leads a thing of the past! With that being said, the relationship these 2 have with Su-Yeong is complicated and definitely adds to the show’s drama as well as plenty of frustration.
However, it seems like complicated relationships are a common theme with Su-Yeong. She seems to be distant from everyone in her life, even her parents, due to some mysterious accident in her past. The reasoning for her cold demeanor will definitely be revealed as the drama progresses, but you can’t help but pity yet also get annoyed with her as she reacts to those around her.
Overall, the first few episodes of The Interest of Love are a great way to start off the new year with your standard, light-hearted and romantic Korean drama!
