It is not only about the show makers and writers- what about the audience? Why is the audience not watching the shows that are presenting realistic plots?
The responsibility also lies with the audience to be brave to be a part of the change they want to see.
The change is coming as the change in audience happens. As more and more women move away to their own devices and start watching content of their own choice, we will see that tv content will be only seen by women who do not have access to their devices.
And as that change occurs, the content made for women will also change as the number of women watching the content in single tv homes will change as well. It will take a social change for women story telling to be an important part of their growth and nurturing.
THERE ARE SO MANY INDIAS
The change must start somewhere but what does it take to begin?
For Nilanjana,if she wants to write what she really wants to, she is sure there is an audience for it. She no longer wants to be subversive about the issues she wants to write about, she wants to open herself up to the issues that she wants to discuss about women. And when she tells these stories of women, she wants women to watch it and associate with them.
For such storytelling, there need to be broadcasters like Danish Khan who have the commitment to tell real stories of women like they need to be told, not under the pressure of ratings but because that is the right thing to do.
