In the Indian TV universe for a woman to have walked out of a marriage, where they all have to stay in a marriage till they die is a big deal, Anupama has made it possible in storytelling. And that is an achievement.
But isnt the problem with the story that she is still there with those toxic people?
Mental health in a place like India is not an issue to be considered in story telling.A lot of us get irritated at the lectures coming our way in the Anupama episodes every day but Nilanjana points out that for women watching Anupama, it is the first time they are even hearing of the issues that Anupama is bringing up.
For the first 400 episodes that Anupama was a cow, both mother and daughters in law got hooked to watching the show and now, even when the mothers in laws may not agree with Anupama always, they are still watching to see what she will do next. For a lot of daughters in law, they no longer have to answer for themselves, they just point at what Anupama says in her lectures and tell their in laws to refer to what she said in that show.
