BLUF
A story of a girl who takes risks to come to her own while battling societal norms, social conditioning, and disapproval.
THE MEAT AND THE POTATOES:
Bhaag Beanie Bhaag is an astonishingly delightful warm and appealing story told in a very uncomplicated narrative. The 6-episodes of the relatable life of Beanie Bhatnagar hit more than just a chord.
Modern Indian youth will resonate with the story of this career-oriented girl who just wants to do what she wants to while feeling guilty about breaking norms in not being the girl who does not ” Listen to her elders” but instead listens to own self. The journey of Beanie from the socially conditioned “good” daughter to a person of her own is engaging and authentic.
IN THE ZONE
Swara Bhaskar looks dazzling and adds her personality to Beanie pretty successfully..
She has magnificent assistance from the two real-life stands-ups in the series- Varun Thakur and Ravi Patel who play the two men in her life. Patel, who also created the show is a natural, shooting off his Americanism with great authenticity (versus the stereotypes depicted mostly) only a very poised standup could. Girish Kulkarni and Mona Ambegaonkar are magnificently appropriate as Beanie’s parents. Dolly Singh as Beanie’s influencer friend is quite a roll.
FWAR
The relationships are constructed organically, and you know the characters have been written well when you start caring about even the lying married man.
Every character is so relatable that you feel that this may be your struggle. We just cannot get over Beanie’s mother’s eggplant insertions. Watch the show to know what we mean. The colloquial language used makes the characters more significant.
Another thing for the ones who are going to read the show – the translation of the expletive ‘F#$%’ is ‘Laanat Hai’. WTLH !!!
WHAT WE LOVED: The story, the actors, and the relatable story of Beanie
WHAT WE MISSED: We were hoping for Beanie’s standup skits to be funny. They were not.
