BLUF
Veera (Mona Singh), Jayati (Swastika Mukherjee), and Kavita (Shamita Shetty) entrapped in abusive marriages, devise a plan to kill their obnoxious husbands. The first episode of the series starts with a bomb blast that kills the three men.
THE MEAT AND THE POTATOES
Jayati, Veera, and Kavita put an end to their agonies by planning the murder of their abusive husbands by planting a bomb on the boat that the husbands are on
While Jayati’s husband Lalit (Mohan Kapoor) beats and tortures her, Kavita’s husband Nilesh (Vipul Roy) treats her like an article of trade and forces her to sleep with his clients and friends to further his career.
Veera’s husband, Jatin (Sharad Kelkar) threatens to take away her young daughter if she does not listen to him.
With law enforcement investigating the deaths of these three men under mysterious circumstances, the story becomes an interesting game of the cops catching up on the killers while other back characters pop up to complicate the plot.
IN THE ZONE
Black Widows is a remake of the 2014 Finnish drama ‘Mustat Lesket’.
Adapted by Radhika Anand and directed by Birsa Dasgupta, ‘Black Widows’ is a terrific dark comedy-drama especially when things don’t go according to plan and circumstances get tangled, resulting in an intriguing edge of seat 12-part series.
The narrative is riveting and keeps you glued all through with the two subplots are fascinating-: one with a vicious entrepreneur- Inaaya, (Raima Sen), the owner of a pharma company, which is manufacturing a virus to infect people in the garb of human trials for cures; and the other one involves Ramiz (Shaheb Chattopadhyay), who wants a bagful of cash. Both Radhika and Birsa have done justice to this intricate plot.
Swastika Mukherjee steals the show as the willful yet expressively restrained Jayati. She impeccably portrays the pain of her character through her body language. Mona Singh looks spectacular on screen and compellingly portrays Veera’s dilemma, a mother who can go to any length to protect her daughter. Shamita Shetty, in her acting comeback, is satisfyingly irritating as the dumb and spontaneous Kavita. Investigating cops Pankaj and Rinku (Parambrata Chatterjee and Shruti Vyas ), stand out in every scene. Aamir Ali’s special appearance as Eddie adds fun to the story. Sharad Kelkar steals the limelight as Jatin. Raima Sen as Inaya Thakur has a major role and brings a lot of sophistication to the narrative.
