THE MEAT AND THE POTATOES
Bloody brothers is a lot of emotions and the top most for us has been WOAH – Jaideep and Zeeshan can do this too!! Jaideep in his supersonic cool, chic sexy format, every inch of the smart, savvy Jaggi who really knows what he is doing. Zeeshan, like never seen before as Daljeet is a goofy, sentimental, wears his heart on his sleeve, simple, uncomplicated guy who does not miss a single beat going off track.
In between these two characters are situations, other characters, twists, lies, turns, plans, plots and a lot of secrets.
The two brothers live in Ooty. The series, ‘Bloody Brothers’ is an official Indian adaptation of the BCC Scotland 2019 series ‘Guilt.’ Though the basic premise of the series is similar to the original, yet the treatment is totally Shaad Ali peppered by fabulous performances by the two lead actors who we just cannot help but be in awe of.
An old man is knocked down and killed by these two brothers while driving home on a fateful night. Daljeet, who was driving the car, the more naive of the two, is determined to not only report the crime but also leave a lot of clues all over the crime scene.
The wealthy elder brother Jaggi, an attorney by profession, however, stops him in time and they carry the body to the old persons home and leave the scene.
Samuel Alvarez (Asrani), is terminally sick with cancer and is being treated by Sheila a nurse at his home. As the matter is laid to rest and the death declared natural, Samuel’s niece arrives from Mumbai and so do a multitude of other issues which escalate the issues for the brothers.
The entertainment begins immediately in the way Daljeet leaves his wallet at Samuel’s house and returns to the crime scene, and meets Sophie (Tina Desai), Samuel’s niece.. Daljeet starts getting close to her whereas. Jaggi, , intuitively perceives himself as a take-charge sibling, tries to ward off Sophie’s suspicions by recommending the services of pathetically incompetent private investigator Dushyant (Jitendra Joshi), who works with Jaggi. At first, it appears to be a fantastic decision, until Dushyant decides to walk out of his drunkorexia and devote his entire life to uncovering the truth and messes up the scene for the brothers. Even Jaggi’s perpetually self-obsessed wife Priya (Shruti Seth) is baffled as to why both brothers have become pally with each other. She sets off on another path of exploration with Priya, her gym buddy ( Mughda Godse)
As everyone becomes more suspicious; can the brothers manage to walk out of the bloody quagmire they created for themselves? And what exactly is the truth to the old man being outside at night waiting to be hit by a vehicle? We wont give you the spoilers.
IN THE KNOW
Shaad Ali excels at this story telling like never before. The actors, their chemistry just is so perfect for pulling off the nuanced sophistication of dark humor. Sometimes so well placed that we laughed out so loud much to the chagrin of the dog who ran scared out of his bed. The two actors grip the narrative so strongly from the start to the finish in a way that you cannot help but binge to see if indeed they will eventually get caught.
Ooty is captured in this edge of the seat twisted story written by Siddhrath Hirwe, Anuj Rajoria, Riya Poojary, Navnit Singh Raju. Dark humor is an extremely intricate genre. And the writing for it even more so. The team has definitely done a fab job at crafting a very palpable, intelligent and absorbing narrative with some real splendid writing.
The characters, the twists, the humor, the wit in the screenplay make this series one of the best works created so far this year. Satish Kaushik as Handa is hilarious, Maya Alagh as the nurse Sheila is brilliantly portrayed. What stays with you after the show is over is one scene where Jaggi introduces the good for nothing alcoholic investigator Dushyant to Sophie as the best investigator in Ooty, you could almost spill your coffee out.
Vikash Nowlakha’s cinematography is world class. Some of the shots are really framed brilliantly. The length of the series is perfect, With only two longish episodes out of the six; it is your perfect weekend Binge
