BOTTOM LINE UPFRONT
A Bollywood celeb management agency called ART has a few agents who would go to any lengths for the stars they represent just like in the French OG of this series.
What we get to see is a brilliant take on Bollywood making fun of Bollywood in a manner like never.
The series is produced by Applause Entertainment & Banijay Asia and is directed by Shaad Ali.
THE MEAT AND THE POTATOES
Call My Agent: Bollywood is a scene-by-scene remake of the French original even when some sensibilities are altered to suit a majorly Indian audience.
Emanating from the grandiose of the Victoria Terminus, the imagery is glammed up to suit the subject: the business of Bollywood.
So the stories fit in well, Indianized and sprinkled with the big, the small, and the wannabes of the tinsel town. The story holds its own – even when there is little or no change in the story-making.
IN THE KNOW
In making the remake plausible, a lot of Indianization occurred is deliberately limited to the replacement of plots with its Indian equivalent. Like for instance the POC receptionist in the OG is replaced by the Indian marginalized Northeastern girl.
The story keeps the pace, and the camera takes well to the storytelling – which is sarcastic, pointed and keeps the psychedelic tone in its frames to make the cameos fun and funny.
The bg score by Pranoy Roy is nothing to write home about but the pace makes you forget there is one.
The dialogues could have been sharper.
What we really liked was the attempt to keep it as close as possible to the OG, yet Indianizing it for the not-so-sophisticated French Cinema watching elite audience.
WHAT WE LOVED
The actors- Rajat Kapoor, Ahana Kumra, Ayush Mehra, and Soni Razdan sparkle. Radhika Seth is great.
WHAT WE MISSED

Music.
