In a first for India, here comes a sketch comedy that we can laugh with. In a very SNLish format of sketch comedy, the very well-written series with 6 episodes is wig. The vibe is satire and it completely gets the humor hit differently. A lot of people may not understand this genre well but written to hit almost sarcy; the writing is tight, effective for most episodes but a lot of the screenplay could have been done away with.
The episodes are unnecessarily long and sometimes stretch. Directed by Sukriti Tyagi, this satire explores some interesting and relevant topics like climate change; how children are treated as customers in private schools and the auction to the highest bidder premise of education; how hospitals and their packages with 5-star facilities are drilling the pockets of the people while the doctors’ lives are in danger; how cricket is the only sport that people care about, and rest of the games or players only become famous after their biopics are made by Bollywood; how train journeys can provide India’s most wholesome outlook; and the importance of newspapers for people of all ages and overdependence on tailored news feeds only feeding your preferred narrative.
Written by a group of comics – Gursimran Khamba, Amit Tandon, Rohan Desai, Manuj Chawla, Mohammad Anas, and Gurleen Pann- we were hoping for tighter screenplay because you know – the punchline needs to hit. Overall- a good series and a great attempt and using sarcasm and comedy to bring to the viewers’ attention the entire depravity of the state of the Indian scene. Streams on @SonyLIV
