Chutzpah delves into how the online world of social media has alienated for a lot of people a reality that exists in their proximity. Using the cliched figures of speech, including a social media sensation grappling with body image problems and a John Tucker Must Die type plot to bring down a misogynistic womanizer.
Directed by Simarpreet Singh, Chutzpah has distinct yet interrelated stories. Kevin Paul (Gautam Mehra) is a content creator, whose defining trait is reminding everyone to ‘like, share, comment. All he wants is to get the attention of fashionable influencer Deepali Shah (Aashima Mahajan). His friend Prateek Chawla (Kshitij Chauhan), boasts about being a seducer who can charm any woman into his bed.
Rishi (Manjot Singh) is a bashful guy who battles to talk to women and turns to porn sites to accomplish his aspirations. His fav camgirl Wild Butterfly (Elnaaz Norouzi), conceals a secret of her own.
Vikas Bhalla (Varun Sharma) is a spoiled Punjabi boy, who strives to adapt to the ‘atmanirbhar (independent)’ life in Boston, as he maintains a long-distance relationship with his university girlfriend Shikha (Tanya Maniktala).
In under-explored sub-plots, the story touches upon the dark angles of our alternate realities on social media but barely tackles them head-on
