The story promises to be inspired by the Sarat Chandra Chattopadhay’s epic love tragedy Devdas of an unrequited love.

The protagonist is a 21 year old Devika Dharam Dwivedi, who is apparently a new age feminist.

We believe in feminism, yet the over the top, aggressive and cause less feminism may be an overture quite repulsive.

Devika, the lead character is a woman with an attitude. We love women with attitudes, who can stand up for themselves, make decisions and then take responsibility for it. Yet, the character doesn’t seem to be quite so consistently developed. It lacks the depth to be likeable and borders on being quite hideous at times.

She is confident, yet unsure. She is bright, yet quite dumb. Her family is liberal yet closed minded. She confuses her right to opinion by being deeply disrespecting. She is a rebel without a plausible cause. And not inspiring at all.

Somewhere in this story, lies a desperate attempt by the production team to instill a definition of feminism that may backfire in the long run. Feminism is not about expletive mouthing, wearing revealing clothes, kissing in public or even demeaning other people who do not agree with you. It is this very attitude towards feminism, that has made it so taboo with so many people.

Feminism does not need props. It is an attitude, it is a mindset. Feministic mindsets do not require a war. All they require is a mindset change. Any story that is as loud and in the face as Dev DD will cause nothing but a nauseous reaction to the idea of the equality of women and may boomerang in its intent to portray women’s rights to live by their own terms.
