DIL BECHARA : AN ODE TO SUSHANT SINGH RAJPUT

This is a very special movie for most fans of Hindi cinema. Sushant Singh Rajput’s swan song is not only a fitting ode to the raw talent that Sushant represented, but an adieu to one of the brightest stars that will continue to shine in our skies forever.

A Hindi adaptation of John Green’s The Fault in our Stars, in Dil Bechara, Sushant portrays Manny. Aka Immanuel Rajkumar Junior, a cancer survivor, whose cancer returns to take a terminal form and Sanjana Sanghi, playing Kizzie Basu, battling thyroid cancer.

The film opened to a worldwide premier on Disney+Hotstar in India and on @HotstarUSA in North America. It seemed the whole world wanted to pay tribute to Sushant, with tears in their eyes.

It was hard to watch him, his smile, his sincerity and the impeccable style, knowing he is gone.

The story is poignant and beautiful, the lyrics ethereal and the music pure Rahman.

The execution of the story, the chemistry between Manny and Kizzie, the eventuality that both live with of a death, while trying to live the moments they have to the fullest, with each other and for the ones they love.

The love for Rajinikanth, the search for why a song writer did not complete a song, the fake cigarette pop, all defined the search for miracles while being dogged with the fear of leaving things unfinished for people with terminal illnesses.

Sushant is no more. And it was hard to watch him on celluloid, going away again. Even if this was a story, we just wanted this story not to end like this.

Just like we wish his life had not.

So, you’re leaving, aren’t you?
I knew it when you said just then when you told me you were leaving
That’s when I definitely knew
But if you’re trying to break my heart
Your plan is flawed from the start
You can’t break my heart, it’s liquid
It melted when I met you
And as you turn around to leave
Don’t’ turn back to me
Don’t turn around and see if I’m crying
I’m not crying
