Shoojit Sircar and Juhi Chaturvedi have given us epic movies that our generation will remember forever. Be it Vicky Donor, Pink, or October, each movie has a beautiful heart-tugging story that belongs only to the characters so intricately woven for that place and time.

Gulabo Sitabo is one such masterpiece that can only be created will all heart and soul. The story revolves around the banter of a bunch of people fighting over the ownership of a mansion, the characters become legends made of the story. The interaction between the characters of Bankey performed by Ayushmann Khurana and Amitabh Bachchan as Mirza; is Homeric. The paucity of emotion they feel for the putrescent mansion is discernible in their banter. In the twist towards the end of the movie, the women, who they ridicule for their lack of acumen, end up winning the game.

The background music, the cinematography, the entire feel of the decaying mansion in a city slowly losing its royal sheen, the oneness of the actors as characters, their ability to merge into the story and not overpower it – this movie has so much right in it; that we cannot point to one thing missing. It is intense when it needs to be, emotional when it should be and gratifying when you need it to be.

This may be the best character portrayal of Bacchan ever. Ayushmann becomes Bankey. He loses his personality in becoming the character. You see him evolve into that person in front of your eyes and you no longer think of him as Ayushman.

This movie is perfectly sculpted with its class politics, subdued feminism, language, and scripted dialectics that you don’t miss a single ingredient in its presentation.

Shoojit Sircar shows you what he wanted you to see so perfectly that what you end up seeing is a pristine masterpiece.

We love this movie. This may be the movie Desis in America have been waiting for. The immense talent, the intricate storytelling, the cultural rollercoaster and the perfect performances.
