BLUF
Kapoor (Ashutosh Rana) and Bajaj (Manoj Joshi) are old friends. They decide to get their children married but just before the engagement Vani enters the Kapoor household claiming to be the mother of Gehna, supposed ex Girl of Aakash. Kapoor’s son.
Who is Vani? Is she really the wife of Aakash, as she claims? And, the all-important, what about the initially planned marriage? The answers to all these questions form the story of Hungama 2.
THE MEAT AND THE POTATOES
Priyadarshan returns to Bollywood after a long gap and picks up another plot rewritten for the current times and relies on the age-old time tested Priyadarshan formula of confusion, drama, and comedy. This angle of the dangle somehow does not work with Hungama 2
Even the punches don’t seem to land the way they are intended to. The plot is wafer-thin and the writing is weak. The actors are iffy in their roles. The entire narrative fails. In the last few minutes with the entry of Rajpal, some of the old spark returns.
FWAR
Pranitha Subash, the female lead is paired with Meezan but doesn’t do much for the screen chemistry. Meezan on his own is quite charming and his scenes with Shilpa Shetty are actually more chem on screen
Shilpa Shetty looks gorgeous as ever and more than delivers what is expected from her. What is with these actresses in their 40’s making their come-backs- they are all smoldering hot and look better than before.
The real strength of Hungama 2 is its supporting cast. Ashutosh Rana leads the charge with a tough grandfather act. He is sincere and does his best for the part.
Paresh Rawal starts weak but ends on a high note. The real feature-creature is Rajpal Yadav.
The music by Anu Malik could have been better. We absolutely loved the remix of his classic chartbuster song- chura-ke-dil-mera. The background score by Ronnie Raphael is ok. The cinematography of NK Ekambaram is weak for a big comedy production.
