HUSH HUSH: A THRILLER THAT FELL SHORT OF INTERESTING

A highly motivated cop takes on a case after a girl in a friend group of 4 commits suicide, and the remaining friends try to find out the truth behind their friends death while being suspects for murder.

Cast: Juhi Chawla, Soha Ali Khan, Shahana Goswami, Kritika Karma, Karishma Tanna

Director: Tanuja Chandra

Hush Hush follows the story of a group of 4 friends who find themself battling with personal demons and the lost of one of their friends Ishi due to suicide. A motivated cop Gisha is working on the case and a man who is assumed to have been abusing Ishi at the time is murdered by one of the three friends.

Hush Hush is an interesting drama in the sense that this story is told from end to start. Meaning, at the very beginning we are shown that Ishi dies and the rest of the series is putting the details into this story. While this show is a thriller in nature, there are a lot of things to pick apart in this series.

Let’s start with some praise. There is quite good acting in this show espcially from Karishma Tanna who has many tear-jerking performances. It is hard for any professional to get on camera and cry with the emotion that Tanna did in her scenes. On that note, Soha Ali Khan also shows a lot of emotional depth in her role. Applause is due to the entire cast, but these two really brought some serious acting skills to the table.

So if the acting in this show was pretty good, where did this show go wrong?

Well like I said at the beginning, this thriller is told backwards, which is a great way to tell the story but it must be done right. I often did not feel that the story was going anywhere and that the narrative relied on a few climatic points and the rest of the story was filler space. This show also tries to dive deep into each individual character but fails to create a group dynamic that is worth watching. When they are together, it does feel like it is filler space. Even when they took a deep dive on the character, a lot of it was surface level and we often cannot see a lot into their mind/motives that may inspire certain behaviors.

WATCH OUR REVIEW

Episode 1 a man is killed but then he is forgotten about for the rest of the story, so often the show feels slightly choppy in the way it was written. They attempt to make some plot twists and some land but many do not. The forced cliff hanger at the end indicates that there will be a season 2, but I am unsure if I am even interested to watch it. It might be better to see some more depth in some of these characters and to see them blend together as a friend group instead of four individual minds.

Show was mid at best but hopefully there will be some better turn out for Season 2. Maybe we will keep this review on the “Hush Hush”.
