LOVE AAJ KAL 2

Love Aaj Kal 2 centers around two relationships, one today and one from the past (thus the aaj/kal, similar to its 2009 predecessor). Aaj is about Zoe and Veer. Veer is a lovelorn puppy while Zoe is a high-flying career girl who has her whole life planned out…. until love comes along. Kal centers around Raghu and Leena, whose love moved from Udaipur to Delhi and spanned over years.

Sara Ali Khan convincingly plays a spoilt, millennial Delhi girl and Kartik Aryan has the right kind of boyish, roadside Romeo charm but their hysterics make them come off as annoying and unlikeable characters, with a disingenuous love story. Raghu and Leena’s relationship seems sweeter and more real, with newcomer Arushi Sharma doing a lot of heavy lifting and oozing girlish innocence.

Raghu and Leena’s story seemed to have a cop-out ending and the rest of the film is unintelligently all over the place. The characters, trapped in bad writing, aren’t allowed to shine; even if they could.

This film is worth watching for its real star, Randeep Hooda. He serves as a brilliant narrator, lighting up the screen with his larger-than-life personality and serves us some delicious eye candy.

So if you’re in the mood for great music and a delicious bartender to ogle at, quaranwatch the movie. But honestly you’d be better off streaming the soundtrack and stalking Hooda’s Instagram with a quaranwine for company.
