According to Variety, the leading actress Armas, who plays Marilyn Monroe, was caught in tears at the screening with her face glowing as tears streamed down.
Pitt made a surprise appearance in Venice since he was not present at the film’s press conference earlier in the day. Co-star Adrien Brody also shed a few tears. Pitt was visibly pleased.
In a video posted to social media, Ana can be seen crying and thanking the audience while blowing kisses to those nearest to her. The clip also shows Ana hugging her Blonde Brody, who will be portraying playwright Arthur Miller, Monroe’s third husband.
The biographical drama is based on the novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates. “It reimagines the life of Monroe, from her volatile childhood as Norma Jeane through her rise to stardom.” The supporting cast includes Bobby Cannavale, Brody, Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams.
Blonde is directed by Andrew Dominik, whose last feature-length film was 2012’s Killing Them Softly, which starred Brad Pitt who is a producer on Blonde and Dede Gardner. Netflix will open Blonde globally on September 28.
