Netflix is all set to bring the story of the life of dreaded poacher Veerappan, who came to be known as the ‘Robin Hood of India’, with its next original The Hunt for Veerappan. With his iconic handlebar mustache and gaunt cheeks, the smuggler became one of the most feared criminals in the country. He operated from the dense forests of South India and single-handedly held two states to ransom for many years. The four-part docu-series has been helmed by debutant Selvamani Selvaraj, and produced by Apoorva Bakshi, the woman behind Delhi Crime.
The teaser of the series dropped on Thursday, giving a glimpse of Veerappan and his rise and how he was the subject of India’s longest and costliest manhunt. As a spine-chilling song plays in the backdrop, we get to hear how he and his gang killed more than 119 people. Former home minister LK Advani’s old clip is also played as he talks about him. The series promises to bring the untold story of the poacher, who went on to become the ‘Robin Hood of India’ as he helped villagers monetarily.
