RANBIR SHRADDHA’S ROM COM TU JHOOTHI MAIN MAKKAAR IS A FUN RIDE

CAST: Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia, Boney Kapoor, and Anubhav Singh Bassi

DIRECTOR: Luv Ranjan

Micky (Ranbir) and Tinny (Shraddha) meet at the bachelor party of their respective best friends Dabbas (Anubhav Singh Bassi) and Kinchi (Monica Chaudhary). . As they flirt and send their hearts flying to each other, by the time the trip is over, they are an item.

Then the great Indian fam meet each other and the expectations of the extended family their pressures make Tinni question her life with Rohan aka Mickey.

Instead of being able to completely ghost him, she hires a service that helps people break up with their love interests. (Which turns out to be Mickey).

In this Luv Ranjan battle of sexes told from a male perspective, the woman seems expendable since all her issues get solved in one go.

Love is a messy topic to write about especially when you add family elements to it. The conflict in this rom-com is centered around a professional woman’s inability to balance the aspirations of her to-be-family with her own happiness, despite being in love with the man.

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Movie Review

The locales and the characters are picture perfect. And the chemistry between Ranbir and Shraddha is off the charts.

Rohan is Bunnyish. Complete with contemporary 500 people synced dances on foot tapping vives, the movie can fill the chart with tiktok trends if you want it to.

The first part of movie feels like we are meeting Ranbir from Yeh Jawani or Tamasha or Bachna Yeh Haseeno- he is all of them and more.

The music by Pritam is foot tapping and bangers mostly.

The Ranbir Kapoor romcom has first day first show seats filled in California on a Wednesday afternoon in a working week. And then the AMC disc wouldn’t load. So the entire theater waited in patience for 30 minutes before they could get the movie working.

It’s actually the last 30 minutes when the film truly redeems itself in the most hilarious, emotional and genuinely funny way. I mean, if you just saw that portion of the film, you won’t feel you missed the earlier 144 minutes. It’s so entertaining that if Ranjan would have stuck to that tone and pace from the beginning, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar would have been almost a hit out of the park.

A master in monologue writing and making his actors say those in a breathless manner, Ranjan has taken it to another level this time. There are countless monologues and almost everyone gets to say one, including Shraddha and Anubhav.

Though the story is predictable, it is the directors lens that stands out.

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Movie Review: Ranbir Kapoor's last rom-com is loaded with comedy; Shraddha impresses

Anubhav not only gets adequate screen time but ample scope to perform as well. Ranbir- Anubhav bromance is epic and those two have real scene chemistry.

Shraddha delivers a very controlled performance but we would give her a lower grade for the emo scenes.

A lot of Delhi lingo might end up confusing even the Hindi speakers and  the subtitles in some critical scenes lose the plot.

Micky’s modern South Delhi family is a riot. Be it the cool granny, loud yet caring mother (Dimple Kapadia), busy-in-his-own-world but always there father (Boney Kapoor), a loving sister (Hasleen Kaur) and the sweetest child in the family (Inayat Verma) who is always hilarious shown to be a bit too mature for her age (she’s a show stealer), they’re a riot together.

The strength of the movie is those family scenes and they are extremely well knit.

Mickey and Tinni will take you through the rollercoaster of emotions that you would break into a burst of hysterical laughter and then break down into tears.

Arijit’s music, Ranbir’s good looks to die for, Shraddha’s contagious smile, and a dose of laughter is on the plate for you.

You can watch Tu Jhoothi main Makkaar at the nearest cinema near you.
