BLUF
Scam 1992 – The Harshad Mehta Story is a biopic of Harshad Mehta, an upstart broker on the Bombay Stock Exchange who became too powerful for his own good.
THE MEAT AND THE POTATOES
This series focuses on the fraud committed by Harshad Mehta based on the book, The Scam written by The Times of India journalist, Sucheta Dalal who broke the story. It focuses broadly on the rise of Harshad Mehta from a trading floor operative to The Big Bull of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). This is the story of how he created one of the biggest scams in India using the ambiguities of the laws and regulations.
IN THE ZONE
Pratik Gandhi plays the leading role of Harshad Mehta in the series and it seems that he has totally imbibed not only the character but also the world in which the character thrived with immense personalization. This makes the entire character simple yet so powerful. He is the strength of the script. Hats off to great casting.
The delicate evolution of the character of Mehta (in control and self-confidence) is very well written and perfectly executed to be believable. The charisma of Mehta and his bravado in the face of disappointments is convincingly portrayed.
In general, Scam 1992 is a marvelous biography full of spectacle and excitement, and the proper combination of script, acting, and casting make it a work of art. Pratik Gandhi and Shreya Dhanwanthary are both exceptional. Only to be supported by an ensemble of the brilliant cast including notably Hemant Kher, Satish Kaushik, Nikhil Dwivedi, Shadab Khan, Ananth Narayan Mahadevan & Rajat Kapoor.
The theme music of the series by Achint Thakkar is a super hit and one of the highlights of the series reflecting the pace, the thrill, and the narrative in the tunes
The cinematography by Pratham Mehta is exceptional as is the editing by Sumit Purohit, and Kunal Walve. They deserve the credit for maintaining the story on track even with the complexity of the story and the sub-scripts.
FWAR
The whole series is fundamentally filled with Financial jargon and that could have been a big lacuna in its narrativity or appeal to the lay audience. Remarkably, the writers do a great job of averting the storyline from drifting into that zone. The dialogues do not shy away from the formal business jargon, but the script and the direction break it down beautifully for the audience in a way where it is not technical enough to waver their interest and attention.
Mehta‘s personal life and its simplicity in conjunction to his complicated ambitions is a story of heroic proportions for any aspirational person.
The chemistry between the Mehta brothers, their family, engender sentiments with no exaggeration. The audience loves an underdog story and the ascend of Harshad Mehta is brilliantly accomplished with great lines and thrills.
The strength of the series is its persistent, racy, and gripping narrative. The story does not get the time to languish and quickly moves from one vital instant to another. The subplots are not only all flawlessly unified to the main plot but are also explored in detail without letting the story turn mundane or dreary.
WHAT WE LOVED
Phenomenal casting, brilliant script, tight narration, and splendid screenplay with magnificent direction
WHAT WE MISSED
Long, though racy.
