SQUID GAME ACTOR LEE JUN JAE JOINS STAR WAR SERIES “THE ACOLYTE”

Squid Game star Lee Jung Jae lands his first major American studio joining Disney+ Star Wars series The Acolyte. The South Korean actor will star alongside Amandla Stenberg and Jodie Turner-Smith.

The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging Dark Side powers in the final days of the High Republic era, Disney+ said in announcing the project in December 2020. In the real universe of Star Wars, “acolyte” can refer to individuals with Force abilities who learn from a more experienced Sith Lord.

Details on the show are being kept under wraps. Leslye Headland is showrunning, writing and directing. Lee’s addition to The Acolyte series marks Lee Jung Jae’s first major role post Squid Game, the hit Netflix drama that made him a global star.

Next Monday, Lee along with Squid Game co-star Jung Ho Yeon will be attending the Emmys as presenters next week.

As per the report, after signing with CAA in February, Lee Jung Jae first wanted to put the finishing touches on his directorial debut Hunt, which he also stars in, before its Cannes Film Festival premiere. That film recently was acquired by Magnolia Pictures.
