A soap opera, a murder mystery, a love story, a revenge plot, Hum TV’s Ye Dil Mera has it all. Ye Dil Mera centers around Amanullah, a typical corporate guy whose family was brutally murdered by his neighbor Mir Farooq when he was 11 years old, forcing him to relocate to England and live with an abusive uncle.
In this show, Amanullah is an adult and returns to Pakistan with an immense fortune and a thirst for revenge. He wants to get back at Mir Farooq by marrying the apple of his eye, his happy-go-lucky daughter Aina. But then he realizes that he’s developing feelings for Aina, and that’s when things start getting complicated. I can’t say enough good things about this show. The plot is amazing and complex, so different from the saas-bahu serials we’re used to.
The chemistry between the two leads is electric (no wonder they’re Pakistan’s most beloved couple, both on and off screen). Sajal Aly shows a very versatile range of expressions although she can verge on annoying at times. Ahad Raza Mir is an absolute onscreen treat. He can be deep and broody and happy and is honestly my newest celebrity crush.
Adnan Sidiqi is the perfect doting dad with tons of secrets, and he plays the villain character even better. The supporting characters stun, even when they’re annoying like Farhana. The last few episodes have a lot of twists and turns and I’m happy with the ending, although it’s not a conventional ‘happy’ one, because it feels more true to this series.
The worst part about this show was the production quality and editing. There was quite a low level of attention to detail, leaving some glaring gaps. Also, I just hated the patchy editing style and excessive flashbacks. However, once you get past that, this is definitely an amazing show. Since the show just finished, put this on your binge watch bucket list for this weekend (we know you aren’t really doing anything else) and get ready to spend the rest of the weekend Instagram stalking Ahad and Sajal.
