In Part 2 of #bytheway, we speak about what is the motivation for the plots written for the #hindiserials. Sometimes the same writers are writing 6 episodes a week for multiple shows across production houses and channels, with tight delivery schedules.
The writers have learnt to differentiate the feedback from the audience based on who the audience is. Every channel in
India has its own set audience. The programming of each channel is not homogenous.
Even in the saas-bahu universe, there are different kinds of saas and different kinds of bahus depending on which channel the show is on. On Zee and Colors, the Saas or Bahu or other characters poisoning each other is a plot that works with the audience but it may not work with the audiences of the other channels.
The logic of writing all of these plots for the writing teams is that that this is what the audience wants. Afterall, it is the same teams that work on a #ghumhaikisikeypyaarmeiin and may also work on something as nuanced as #dhadkanzindaggikii
The writers have an audience persona of a Mrs Sharma from Meerut which they have been following for 32 years for plot based shows.
