THERE IS A SYNERGY BETWEEN THE BENGALI IMAGINATION AND A DETECTIVE STORY: PARAMBRATA CHATTOPADHYAY

We spent some time with Parambrata Chattopadhyay talking about his new series Shabash Feluda and got more than just an insight into the Bengali storytelling’s romance with detective stories.

Shabash Feluda is a Bengali detective thriller series starring Parambrata Chattopadhyay as the titular character, Feluda. The series also features Ritwick Chakraborty, Biplab Chatterjee, Rwitobroto Mukherjee, Rudranil Ghosh, and Sauraseni Maitra in significant roles and streams on Zee5global.

The series is based on Satyajit Ray’s ‘Gangtokey Gondogol’ published in 1971.

In this latest series installment, Parambrata Chattopadhyay’s Feluda repeats, “Gondogol topshey, bistor gondogol.” a lot.

Perfumer SS Selvankar (Arindam Sil) gets killed in an apparent road accident in Gangtok. Before his death, he buys an ancient Tibetan idol – Jamantak – from a simpleton Bengali, Nishikanto Sarkar (Rudranil Ghosh). On their way to the holiday in Gangtok, Feluda (Parambrata Chatterjee) and Topshe (Rwitobroto Mukherjee) meet Shashadhar Bose (Ritwick Chakraborty) – SS Selvankar’s employee in Mumbai. After Selvankar’s death, Shashadhar Bose seeks Feluda’s intervention in resolving the case as the accident turns out to be fishy.
