Summary

You Are My Glory is a Chinese drama following the life of Qiao Jing Jing (played by Dilraba Dilmurat), one of Shanghai’s hottest celebrities with an impeccable reputation and loyal fans. Known as a diligent and dedicated celebrity, netizens believe Jing Jing is perfect and naturally excels at everything she does. However Jing Jing’s perfect illusion is at risk after a video of her terribly playing Honor of Kings, an online mobile game, begins trending. Not only is Jing Jing’s perfect image at risk, but she also may lose the lucrative endorsement contract with Honor of Kings game developers due to her poor performance. In an attempt to save her reputation and contract, Jing Jing agrees to play a casual match at next month’s Honor of Kings award ceremony. With only one month to improve her skills and save her deal and image, Jing Jing actively begins practicing Honor of Kings and eventually enlists the help of her former classmate, Yu Tu (played by Yang Yang).

Despite studying finance in university, Yu Tu is currently an aerospace engineer and dedicated to exploring deep space. Although he is passionate in his career as an aerospace engineer, he is highly torn and contemplating switching to investment banking to earn a higher salary and provide more stability for his aging parents. Yu Tu is placed on forced “vacation” by his current company as he continues to contemplate if he should switch fields. During his vacation he picks up Honor of Kings and quickly becomes a star gamer with crazy skills.

To ensure she does well at the competition, Jing Jing tricks Yu Tu to become her coach for the month leading up to the event. However back in school, Jing Jing used to have a crush on Yu Tu and was politely rejected by him when she asked him to be her boyfriend. As they practice from 9 am – 9 pm, Jing Jing becomes an impressive player and the duo slowly grow closer.

Thoughts

You Are My Glory is hands down one of the cutest dramas I have watched recently. Not only do Jing Jing and Yu Tu have incredible chemistry with one another, but their dialogues and interactions are so witty and endearing. Although Yu Tu has a “robotic” character with a steady and logical personality, he slowly grows warmer as he spends additional time with Jing Jing. Jing Jing’s bubbly and friendly personality is a stark contrast to Yu Tu, but their opposite dispositions make them the perfect couple. Although the flirting is subtle, you can definitely see how much Yu Tu and Jing Jing care about one another.

The drama also has some important and well executed scenes. It accurately highlights the dilemma of pursuing one’s dreams while struggling with societal expectations and pressures of being able to provide for your parents in the future. Yu Tu’s dilemma is not overly exaggerated or dramatized and is portrayed in a way that all viewers can relate to.

Additionally, the game graphics are also outstanding. Although they are not as realistic or impressive as the graphics in Love O2O, the graphics in Honor of Kings are still very realistic and makes me feel like I am actually experiencing the game itself. I would definitely recommend logging onto Viki and giving You Are My Glory a watch!
