“Avatar: The Last Airbender,” a live-action adaptation of the animated Nickelodeon series of the same name, is executive produced by showrunner Albert Kim, Rideback’s Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore, and Michael Goi. Directors include Goi, co-executive producer Roseanne Liang, Jabbar Raisani and Jet Wilkinson.
The story is set in 10th century India during a tumultuous time in the Chola empire when the power struggle between different branches of the ruling family caused violent rifts between the potential successors to the reigning emperor and a civil war became imminent. All the political and military turmoil led to the Cholas becoming the most prosperous and powerful empire in the continent and one of the most successful and long reigning in history.
The film is produced by T-Series, part of its 100-film slate, Reliance Entertainment and Film Hangar. T-Series has been producing or co-producing films since 1990, but is now poised for a huge push into the space with a range of films featuring A-listers.
This powerful and epic hero origin narrative is a hard reboot of the 1979 cult hit Maula Jatt, with a screenplay by Bilal Lashari and lines by Nasir Adeeb, starring Hamza Ali Abbasi, Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan, Ali Azmat, Mirza Gohar Rasheed, Humaima Malick and Faris Shafi.
